Houston red light camera contract extended

May 27, 2009 4:50:51 PM PDT
The city of Houston has voted to extend its red light camera contract. The current contract with the private company that runs the cameras expires in 2011. The city council voted Wednesday to extend that contract to 2014. The move is a preventative strike against state legislators' efforts to phase out the red light cameras.

Currently, lawmakers are considering a bill that could end all future red light camera contracts.
