A nine-year-old boy is at Hermann Hospital after he nearly drowned in the Gulf of Mexico. Eyewitnesses say he was saved by on-lookers. The beach patrol in Galveston says the child was on a boogie board off of East Beach and went underwater. A cord from the board got wrapped around his neck.

A paramedic from Houston was on the beach and saw what was happening. He pulled the child out of the water and performed CPR.

The boy was airlifted to the hospital.
