Smoke filled several floors around 4am of the Hotel Ambassador on the North Freeway near Crosstimbers. Guests had to be evacuated from the mid-rise hotel.

Many of those guests included many survivors of Hurricane Ike and Hurricane Katrina, who helped each other get out.

"When we opened the door to the hallway it was full of smoke so I began to knock on everyone's door that was on my floor so that they can get up and get out," said hotel guest Lisa Burkett.

One man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Firefighters say he was rescued from a second floor room, in which investigators say it appeared someone was smoking.
