The bridge connects the city of Freeport to the island of Quintana and it's the only way on and off the island. At two different spots, you can see right through the FM 1495 bridge. TxDOT blames the problem on heavy traffic loads and erosion, but claims the six-year-old bridge is still structurally safe.
"It has been inspected and is more than satisfactory to drive on," Raquelle Lewis with the Texas Department of Transportation tells us.
"Let's get something going to fix the problem because if the wrong thing comes along, it could be a problem," countered Quinata Councilman Jerry Masters.
TxDOT will make temporary repairs this week. Permanent repairs could take up to 18 months.
