It started last night around 10:15pm. People inside Mambo's restaurant on Highway 290 at Tidwell heard gunfire in the parking lot. Some restaurant patrons came out and flagged down an officer and pointed to a truck that was trying to take off and leave the area.

Police pursued the pickup and the chase took officers all the way to Highway 290 and Kickapoo. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jaime Yanez, was allegedly shooting at officers during the chase with an automatic rifle.

Law enforcement launched an air unit and Yanez eventually gave up. Authorities say it wasn't just Yanez in the vehicle. There was also another man dead in the passenger side of the truck. Investigators couldn't say anything about the relationship between the two men or if the driver even owned the truck.

"All we know is that there was a shooting in the parking lot, patrons flagged down officers and then the chase started when they attempted to stop the vehicle," said Sgt. Billy Bush with the Houston Police Department.

Yanez was taken into custody. The charges pending against him are aggravated assault on a public servant and the murder of the deceased man inside his truck.

Authorities haven't released the name of the victim. They are still trying to notify his family.

No one else was injured in this incident.
