They started smooching at noon Saturday for a contest during the Bridal Extravaganza at the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston. They were the last two couples standing Sunday when organizers began worrying about their safety.

Contest officials decided to declares the contest a tie. As a result, Mario Moreno and Erica Escamillia and Christopher Rodriquez and Eva Orta will split the $25,000 "Dream Wedding" package prize.

Laurette Veres, the producer of the show and creator of the kissing contest, says this makes for a happy ending for both couples, who had certainly earned it.

"They kissed non-stop standing up with no meal or bathroom breaks for almost a full day," she said. "Now that's pucker power!"

Seventeen couples started the 'kiss-off'. At just 2 hours and 15 minutes in, seven couples had dropped out. The world record for continuous kissing is more than 31 hours.

During the contest, some couples apparently communicated with text messages, asking for favors such as 'Scratch my back!'
