Reporter Eric James reported around 9:45pm that a transformer may have blown near 63rd Street on the center of the island and ignited a home. The winds then sent the fire from home to home to home.

There was nothing firefighters could do about the flames as water in the neighborhood was chest deep.

Earlier in the day, a Galveston boat and yacht repair warehouse was destroyed by flames.
