The HISD school board has unanimously approved a plan to open two new schools on the campus of Sam Houston High. The state ordered the school closed because of years of poor performance. Under HISD's plan, the two new schools would consist of a Ninth Grade Academy and a high school focusing on math, science, and technology.

The plan will be submitted today to the Texas Commissioner of Education.

Yesterday, the school board also approved $10,000 bonuses for teachers next year, and new restrictions for students tattooed with gang-related symbols.

They voted to allow out-of-district students to attend school in HISD for free.
