Unsafe trucks nabbed in inspections

HOUSTON The department's truck enforcement united inspected 24 large trucks in west Houston. Officers found 114 safety violations and handed out 17 tickets. Two major problems keep popping up in these inspections.

"Our biggest problem is always with brakes -- brakes out of adjustment, brakes maybe not working," said Bryon Vecera with HPD's Truck Enforcement unit. "The second biggest problem is lights, where the lights are not working, bulbs out, blinkers not working, stop lights -- stuff like that."

The unit pulled one driver out of service, along with seven unsafe trucks. Officers did note that 15 trucks received good marks after the 57 point inspections.
