Lawyer gets probation in blackmail scheme

SAN ANTONIO, TX A judge on Thursday sentenced Mary S. Roberts. Jurors in December convicted Roberts of five counts of theft.

Prosecutors say the case involved attempts by Roberts, with her lawyer husband, to extort money from married men she had sex with in 2001.

Roberts, who also must do 400 hours of community service, had faced up to 20 years in prison.

Her husband, Ted H. Roberts, earlier was convicted on three counts and sentenced to five years in prison.
