Making their intent known

HOUSTON (KTRK) "First of all, we just got Julio Jones committed, so we got the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation," said Yates defensive lineman Damion Square, who was talking about running back Julio Jones. Both are headed to Alabama.

Rivals.com agrees with Damion, ranking the Crimson Tide No. 1, while ranking Texas and Texas A&M 14th and 15th, respectively. Yates offensive lineman Leroy Chevalier signed with the Aggies in part because of new coach Mike Sherman.

"He has NFL experience, coming from an NFL coaching staff," Chevalier said.

"The offensive line had numbers, and we needed numbers in that group, so I guess that would be one position," Sherman said.

Over at Klein High School, kicker Randy Bullock signed with the Aggies as well. He credits the quick contact he received from coach Sherman after Dennis Franchione was fired.

"It made me really confident that everything would still work out. It was relieving," Bullock said.

Klein Oak running back DeSean Hales is one of the stars of the University of Texas' recruiting haul.

"I knew all the schools were going to have good academics and good football programs, but the family atmosphere is different from anywhere else that I went to. And that's what really made me choose UT over all the other schools," Hales said.

Klein offensive lineman Clay Hebert is headed to Rice, along with Cy Falls running back Shane Turner and Cy Falls receiver Denzel Wells.

"They're a great academic fit. They're a great athletic fit. We think they're difference makers," Owls coach David Bailiff said.

The University of Houston and new head coach Kevin Sumlin got Sterling's Ronnie Williams to change his mind from SMU.

"He was a wide receivers coach at Oklahoma. And me being a wide receiver, he knows what a good wide receiver looks like," Williams said. Lamar's Tracey Robertson is headed to Baylor to play for new head coach Art Briles. "I liked him at U of H, but I like him more at Baylor because of the (Big 12) conference. But the coaches at U of H did a good job. I was seriously considering them," Roberson said.
