Part of HPD DNA crime lab closed

HOUSTON (KTRK) This came after Vanessa Nelson, the head of the DNA/serology section at the crime lab, resigned from HPD and the department suspended Sujatha Yarlagadda and another lab employee. The resignation and suspensions are connected to the investigations of claims that several employees openly talked about a proficiency test, a manager told employees what to study and possible cheating on proficiency exams by lab employees.

Officials with the Houston police told Eyewitness News they are actively pursuing a new DNA manager with proper qualifications.
