Keep the weight off for good

But a recent study of nearly 3,000 people who lost a significant amount of weight and kept it off found that many of them used similar strategies. The YMCA of the USA recommends reviewing the following tips from participants in the study for maintaining weight loss:

1. Eat breakfast. It turns out your mother was right. This good nutritional practice reduces hunger later in the day and provides energy that makes performing physical activity easier.

2. Exercise daily. Engaging in moderate intensity physical activity for 60 to 90 minutes a day will help burn enough calories to keep the weight off.

3. Watch your calorie intake, especially from fat. Eat regular meals, count fat grams and calories consumed, and limit the amount of food eaten at each meal and the consumption of high fat foods.

4. Monitor your weight. Weighing yourself at least once a week helps maintain the motivation for losing weight.
