Neighbors complained of a smell last week, prompting authorities to go into the apartment and make the disturbing discovery

KATY, (KTRK) -- Investigators are trying to figure out how a man and a woman died inside of their apartment in Katy.

Investigators found the two people in their first-floor apartment just after 10:30 Wednesday evening in the 15000 block of Katy Gap Road.

According to a next-door neighbor, a strong smell was coming from the apartment. She told Eyewitness News she reported the smell last week.

"I called it in last Friday," said a next-door neighbor, who did not want to be identified. "Someone else could smell it besides me. It's scary."

Investigators say there's no signs of forced entry. The man and woman have not been identified.

"I have a little bit of a smell over mine," said upstairs neighbor James. "I didn't hear any fights. I didn't hear anybody yelling or screaming or anything else. Something may have happened when I was gone."

James said he knew the man who lived in the apartment for nearly two years. James said a woman moved in with the man about a month ago.

"I didn't meet her. I didn't know her at all, but him, I knew for a couple of years," said James.

Neighbors say they're concerned about the deaths.

"I definitely won't be walking probably won't be walking here anymore," said Neela Nigudkar.
