LATROBE, PA -- A man was arrested for holding a woman captive for days, beating her with a hammer and pouring bleach into her eyes, according to police.

The alleged assaults began Wednesday and lasted until Saturday when the woman was finally able to escape from her 43-year-old boyfriend, Glenn Whittier, police said. During the time she was help captive, police say Whittier beat the woman with a hammer, assaulted her, pulled out her hair and poured bleach in her wounds and on her face.

Cory Ghrist, the boyfriend of the victim's daughter, described the injuries to ABC affiliate WTAE-TV.

"She could hardly walk or talk. It looked like she had a big snuff in. She was just all beat up. She told us Glenn Whittier went over there and beat her with a hammer and smashed her face off this heater thing," Ghrist said.

Police have not yet said how the woman escaped, but she was able to get treatment at a local hospital.

Whittier is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and single counts each of false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, simple assault and harassment. His bail is set at $100,000.
