Sunday will start off a little foggy and end with sunshine
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- At least one person died as a result of a dangerous tornado that first touched down near Liverpool, Alvin and Manvel before moving through Galveston County and into Chambers County.
The National Weather Service said that was one of at least five confirmed tornadoes based on radar, as well as known impacts today. First there was Waller County, and then Montgomery County. Then came the tornado that moved from Brazoria County into Galveston County. That storm also caused a small area of damage near Bacliff. This same supercell on the other side of Galveston Bay across Chambers counties could also be confirmed via radar. The NWS will survey all the areas in the coming days.
As storms move out Saturday evening, those should be the last of 2024. A weak cold front will clear the region of any storms or rain and temperatures will fall from the low 70s to low 50s overnight. A few areas of fog could develop early Sunday morning, especially north and east of the city of Houston. Sunday will be calmer with a few clouds and afternoon highs near 70 degrees.
What can we expect for the rest of the year?
We are done with storms for the rest of the year! Sunday through Tuesday will be much sunnier and less stormy compared to the last few days. Sunday could start off a bit foggy in spots, Monday will be quite warm with afternoon highs in the upper 70s, and our next cold front arrive Tuesday on New Year's Eve.
How about that New Year's Eve forecast?
A cold front is expected to move through New Year's Eve in the morning and should pass through dry. While this isn't expected to be a stormy front, it will send temperatures back down into chilly territory for the New Year, with midnight temperatures in the 40s. Afternoon highs will only be in the low-mid 60s Tuesday.

We've got at least 5 days before we should see any more large showers or storms roll through Southeast Texas. As of now, rain chances climb into next weekend. This is with the next weather system that could bring showers and storms to the region the first weekend of January. Lots can still change over the next week, so we'll keep you posted!
When could we get our first freeze in Houston?
We see no signs of freezing temperatures in southeast Texas over the next 10 days. Long-range projections indicate a pattern change is coming to kick off the new year that should lead to chillier weather and a chance for a freeze during the first two weeks of January. On average, Houston's first freeze occurs during the second week of December.
