A temperature rollercoaster this week with two cold fronts on the way
HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Possible record breaking day Monday with highs topping out in the mid to upper 80s.
We started off mild Monday with lows in the mid 60s. With mostly sunny skies Monday afternoon, we should warm once again to near record levels across the region. Temperatures Monday afternoon will be in the mid 80s. Houston's record high temperatures for November 25th is 86 degrees, and we'll likely hit that mark Monday.
When is our next cold front?
Our next cold front arrives Monday night followed by a stronger cold front on Thanksgiving Day. The first front will pack a little cooling punch, so we'll cool off into the upper 40s/low 50s Tuesday morning with highs struggling to get back into the 70s. Th second front on Thanksgiving will likely be stronger, opening the door for much cooler temperatures heading into next weekend and early December.
What is the outlook for Thanksgiving Day?
Everything hinges on the timing of the stronger cold front arriving on Thanksgiving Day, which remains uncertain this many days out. Right now, most models are supporting an early morning cold front which would result in a cool Thanksgiving with highs in the 60s. If that front rolls in late, we could see highs climb into the 70s on the holiday. Cool air looks to stick around through the next weekend and following week.
When could we get our first freeze in Houston?
Long range projections indicate that the earliest our first freeze could happen is the first week of December, but that is a low probability at this time. On average, Houston's first freeze occurs during the second week of December.
