Hot temperatures continue but we could see a few cooling downpours

Slim chance of Thursday downpour, but hot days ahead
There's a slim chance of some rain, but it is going to be hot for everyone in the days ahead.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A heat ridge is building over Texas, but there's still a slim chance you'll get a cooling downpour in the late afternoon and early evening hours.

Friday will start off warm with lows only in the upper 70s and low 80s. Temperatures will again climb into the middle and upper 90s, allowing a few downpours to pop up in and around Houston as the sea breeze front lifts north in the afternoon.

How are things shaping up for the weekend?

For starters, the heat is going nowhere, and we may again find ourselves under a Heat Advisory. There will be enough moisture present for a 30% chance of a downpour on Saturday and a 10% chance of a shower on Sunday.

What's the early outlook for the Fourth of July?

It looks like the heat ridge will get stronger the first few days of July, keeping it seasonally hot for the holiday. The humidity should be fairly high, too, which will be good enough for a 10% chance of a holiday rain shower or thunderstorm.

What is happening in the tropics?

We are watching three features in the tropics. A large Saharan dust cloud could bring us a hazy gray sky for the weekend. Then there are two tropical waves we're monitoring for development. One tropical wave is currently over the Caribbean, and it could develop once it gets into the western Caribbean and southwestern Gulf of Mexico. The next tropical wave is in the far eastern Atlantic, and it has an 80% chance of development over the next 7days. This one could even become the first hurricane of the 2024 season.
