Harris County flood experts advice for residents
Jeff Lindner with Harris County Flood Control says you should not panic, but make plans now

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County officials are keeping a close eye on Harvey, and they want residents to do the same.

Meteorologist Jeff Lindner with Harris County Flood Control says you should not panic, but make plans now. Have an idea of what you will do in different scenarios. If water comes up to the curb, what will you do? Have a plan for how to react if water reaches the front door of your home.

Lindner says in most all cases, residents are advised to stay in their homes. It's the safest place to be. Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles.

Before the storm arrives, there are other steps to consider. Don't park your car in the street if you can avoid it. If you live in a flood prone area, consider moving your vehicle if you can.

Pick up anything that can float or be blown around.

Now is the time to form your mental plan, Lindner advised. Know now what you will do if weather threatens this weekend.
