HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- While it as a sunny start to the weekend, clouds and a few showers return Sunday.
Overnight clouds will begin to move in from the south and eventually will hold some rain. It's going to be another chilly night too with temperatures falling into the mid-upper 30s, low-mid 40s for the coastline. As the clouds roll in temperatures will warm into the mid 50s with on and off showers beginning mid-morning and lasting onto the late afternoon. The heaviest and most prevalent showers are expected near the coast, with lighter more hit or miss rain for Houston and areas north of I-10. The clouds remain all day, but we should still see a few peaks of sun at times.
While this week will still be a bit cooler than normal, there's going to be much more sunshine than what we saw this past week. That being said, another cold front will move through next weekend which could bring widespread showers and storms Saturday evening and into the day Sunday.
At this time we expect next week to be seasonable with no freezes for Houston. MLK Day weekend will feature a warm up into the 70s, but then a stronger cold front is expected to arrive, and that could bring back freezing temperatures after MLK Day.
As noted above, our next cold front arrives Saturday evening. This could lead to less than favorable conditions for the marathon this year. Right now the forecast looks chilly, wet and windy. All could change though depending on the timing and strength of the front.
