First Horizon Bank revisits family gifted Home Fund during ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'
Lawrence Hatch, Central Florida Market President for First Horizon Bank, says he is beyond thrilled to be able to join forces with ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to surprise four deserving families with Home Funds to help cover new expenses that may arise and build a foundation for lasting financial stability.
"I was that poor Black kid that grew up in the projects," Hatch explained. "There weren't a whole lot of individuals who were coming into our community to help us. I wish I had this opportunity when I was a kid," he said of the venture, which aims to foster financial education and stability in the community.
"First Horizon Bank was a participant in the Home Fund with ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" because we do understand that home ownership is very expensive; it's going to be your largest asset and also your largest liability as well."
One of the recipient families was the Broadheads, a family of five headed by mom Elisa.
"The Home Fund really helps with stepping in and making sure that families have that ability to be able to continue keeping up with the property," Elisa said.
"We thought it was critically important to allow you to not only have an opportunity to potentially establish a legacy but then also have funds readily available to you at any point in time should the need arise for, what we say is a 'known' and an 'unknown,'" Hatch added.
According to Elisa, the fund offers a huge financial burden to be lifted off her shoulders.
The home makeover, she added, has given her the opportunity to refocus her attention on her family and begin a new chapter of her life.
"It's not the house, it's what the house has given me is the freedom to live and breathe and raise those two girls without a cloud over us constantly."
