Tropical Storm Arlene forms in Atlantic

A rare April tropical storm has formed far from land in the Atlantic.

Tropical Storm Arlene has been named in the north Atlantic. The subtropical storm became a tropical depression Thursday morning and is now Arlene. Arlene will be no threat to land and is expected to dissipate within the next 12-24 hours. Winds are at 45 mph and Arlene is currently 815 miles west of the Azores.

This is the first named storm in the Atlantic during the month of April since 2003 when Tropical Storm Ana formed and only the second April tropical storm on record during the satellite era in the Atlantic basin.
