GALVESTON, TX (KTRK) -- People leaving Galveston Island Saturday night had a major traffic headache to deal with. A wreck had all lanes of the Gulf Freeway northbound shut down for hours.
The accident happened around 8pm on I-45 at SH-6/146. According to Houston Transtar, a box truck that was stalled on the side of the road was hit from behind by another vehicle. Fuel from the box truck leaked downhill. All lanes were closed for about 3 hours. Then, just before 11pm, one lane finally opened up.
People who had planned to leave Galveston on the Gulf Freeway were advised to go down 146 to Highway 3.
There were no major injuries in the wreck.
