Tomball Tollway opens on Sunday
The six-mile stretch of freeway runs between Spring Cypress and FM-2920

TOMBALL, TX (KTRK) -- Get ready to drive down 6 miles of fresh roadway along one of Harris County's busiest area. The Tomball Tollway is set to open this Sunday, after nearly two years of construction. The Tomball Tollway is supposed to help ease congestion by allowing drivers to bypass 6 stoplights - and lots of traffic -- along highway 249.

The six-mile stretch of freeway runs between Spring Cypress and FM-2920, and like so many other new road projects, this freeway will be tolled. Even though you have to pay to use the Tomball Tollway, you cannot pay with cash or coins. The Tollway is EZ-Tag only, but you can your TX-Tag to get through, as well. If you try to use the lanes without a toll tag, you will face a fine.

"It will take a picture of your license plate and send you a violation in the mail," Karen McBride of the Harris County Toll Road Authority Toll Road Authority.

It costs $1.45 to drive the entire Tomball Tollway.

For drivers like Jennifer Lyons, who runs a business delivering cake balls in the Tomball area, the Tollway offers the promise of faster driving times.

"I'm really excited about it, I'm really ready for it to be open already," Jennifer told us.
