THE WOODLANDS, Texas (KTRK) -- The Woodlands will be hosting the IRONMAN Memorial Hermann North American Championship Saturday, where 2,600 athletes will be participating. That means big crowds and big road closures.
After the 2.4-mile swim in Lake Woodlands, the participants will start the 112-mile bike course, and this year it's different. The athletes will be doing two loops on the Hardy Toll Road, which will be completely shut down southbound on Saturday.
The closure lasts from 2 a.m. until 7 p.m., so drivers will need to use I-45 as an alternate route.
The day ends with 26.2-mile run through The Woodlands, ending on Waterway Avenue.
Major street closures start at 7 a.m., and they will re-open by 10 p.m. Saturday.
Much of Lake Woodlands Drive is affected west of Grogans Mill. Six Pines and Grogans Mill is open, except at the Waterway Path System. And if you are headed to Market Street, you will be able to enter along Lake Woodlands Drive, Six Pines Drive and Grogans Mill.
