Homes damaged as tornado touches down in Bryan

Tornadoes reported in Bryan, Texas
Tornadoes and flooding reported near Bryan, Steve Campion reports.

BRYAN, TX (KTRK) -- We're getting the first look at damage after a tornado touched down in Bryan, Texas. Winds ripped the roof off several homes and caused devastation throughout the area.



Residents tell Eyewitness News that they heard what "sounded like a train whistle."



"Very scary, very thankful to be alive," Paul Wuthrich said.

According to the National Weather Service, a twister touched down at Briarcrest near Lowes in Brazos County.


A tornado was spotted in Brazos County.

Several people took to Twitter to post photos of what looked to be a tornado and storm-related damage in Bryan.

The National Weather Service also says multiple homes have been damaged in the Wheeler Ridge subdivision, and Highway 6 at Briarcrest is shut down due to power outages.

Rain chances will be lower throughout the Memorial Day weekend, but you still might need to run for cover from an afternoon downpour. The holiday weekend will also be hot and steamy with highs pushing close to 90 and the heat index close to 100.
