2 adults and 1 child dead in apparent murder-suicde in north Harris County
Family members told deputies they were conducting a welfare check after trying to contact their relatives earlier this week.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A parent carried out an unthinkable crime in Harris County. They shot and killed their 5-year-old daughter in what investigators called a disturbing murder-suicide.

Relatives made the deadly discovery this afternoon at the Landmark at Kendall Manor apartment complex off Inverness Forest Boulevard.

Concerned relatives told authorities they were conducting a welfare check after not hearing from the family.

When they arrived at the apartment, they did not receive an answer at the door but the vehicles were still in the driveway.

The concerned family members went to the leasing office and asked for help.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said relatives found the bodies of the little girl and her 36 and 37-year-old parents inside a bedroom.

They have been identified as 5-year-old Dafne Medina, 36-year-old Jesse Medina and 37-year-old Estefani Arrambide.

"It appears to be an apparent murder-suicide with a total of three deceased. There is still a weapon at the location as well. Family members are out here on the scene. They're obviously very traumatized by what's occurred," said Sheriff Gonzalez. "The initial information that we have is that this is a total surprise. There were no apparent issues that they knew of or cries for help. These are always the most horrific scenes when there is a child involved. We simply can't make no sense of it."

Homicide investigators said it appears the husband is the killer as they found a gun near his body. Their investigation is ongoing and they are working to figure out the timeline of events.

Deputies were dispatched to the scene where they met with concerned family members who were trying to contact the victims.
