Man shoots, kills child before killing self in SWAT standoff in Conroe

CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- A man shot his three-year-old daughter before killing himself during a SWAT standoff in Conroe Friday night, say police.

The scene unfolded at the Dominion Apartments on the 15500 block of North Freeway Service Road.

Montgomery County Precinct 3 Chief Deputy Matt Rodrigue confirmed deputies were serving papers to let the father know that he had lost custody of his daughter.

He says the father refused to open the door and instead, started sending messages to the child's mother, saying he would harm the little girl.

After several minutes, deputies say the man walked outside and stood there with a gun to his head for about 20 minutes. He then shot and killed himself.

When deputies entered the apartment, they found the three-year-old girl dead with a gunshot wound.
