FREEPORT, Texas (KTRK) -- A call for a fire ended with four officers injured when a man began fighting them, the Freeport Police Department said.
The situation began on Thursday, just after 8 a.m. Freeport PD said it received a call about a fire in a multi-residential unit in the 1700 block of North Avenue K.
When officers arrived at the scene, Freeport PD learned the address was associated with a man identified as Sidney Franklin, who was being investigated for failing to register as a sex offender. Police made contact with Franklin, but say he immediately fled.
As officers were trying to detain Franklin, they said he began fighting the officers.
Franklin was taken into custody on four outstanding warrants. In addition, he will receive multiple charges for the incident, police said.
Four officers, three of whom are Freeport PD, were taken to St. Luke's for evaluation and treatment, according to PD. Of the three officers, one was released to return to duty, while the other two are still under medical restrictions, Freeport PD said.
