HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A construction worker was hit and killed by a co-worker along the Gulf Freeway, the Houston Police Department said.
The incident happened at 11 p.m. Sunday in the southbound lanes before the Dixie Farm Road exit.
Investigators said it appeared a worker was backing up a vehicle when they hit the victim.
The driver told investigators he was being cautious and used his mirrors while reversing, but because it was so dark outside, the construction worker was run over.
Investigators said it appears everyone was wearing the proper safety equipment.
The Gulf Freeway was back open Monday morning.
