Man jumps from overpass to elude police
Houston police say around 7:30am Thursday, a suspect leading several officers on a chase crashed

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An early morning police chase brought traffic on the North Freeway near Parker to a standstill.

Houston police say around 7:30am Thursday, a suspect leading several officers on a chase crashed out. Police were trying to pull the driver over after the small, maroon car came back as stolen.

The suspect crashed into a police officer and also crashed into a silver pickup truck hitting Motti Standard who was on his way to work.

"I didn't want to get hit again so I moved over from the impact," Standard said. "We were moving towards that barrier and thank goodness he put on his brakes and then he peeled off and that's when he stopped the car and ran out and jumped off the bridge."

Police say the suspect jumped off the overpass, falling 20 feet to the ground below. In the process he injured his ankle but still he tried to escape. Video from Skyeye HD later showed police loading him onto an ambulance in handcuffs.

The suspect is at the hospital recovering from a sprained ankle. He's also facing three charges including a felony for evading a police officer.
