Chicago Cubs head to World Series for first time since 1945

Chicago Cubs fans are ready to party like it's 1945.

The Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. Chicago won its first National League pennant and World Series berth in 71 years.

Dexter Fowler sparked a pair of early rallies. He led off the bottom of the first with a double and scored on Kris Bryant's single, one inning after Fowler laced an RBI single.

Wilsson Contreras and Anthony Rizzo added solo homers to pad the Cubs' lead.

Kyle Hendricks was superb over 7 1/3 innings, yielding just two hits and no walks while striking out six. Hendricks left to a standing ovation after surrendering Josh Reddick's one-out single in the eighth.

The Cubs' runs were charged to Clayton Kershaw, who threw seven scoreless innings in Game 2. Kershaw was reached for four earned runs and seven hits over five innings.

The Cubs are punching their ticket to Cleveland, where the Indians will host the first two games of the World Series, beginning Tuesday.
