HOUSTON -- Danny Perez of the Texas Department of Transportation's Houston District discusses a proposal that would dramatically reshape Interstate-45, which runs through downtown Houston to Galveston.

The plan would eliminate the Pierce Elevated and move I-45 east of the central district where it would run parallel to Highway 59. The plan has a price tag of about $6 billion dollars and would not begin until funding is in place.
