HOUSTON -- A man is dead after he was shot in the head early this morning outside a packed sports bar in southwest Houston. Authorities say the victim was shot by a gunman who appeared to be waiting for him outside a nearby sandwich shop.
Houston police say about 500 people were leaving Carrington's Sports Bar on Buffalo Speedway at South Main before 2am when the shots were fired. Grainy surveillance video shows the victim and his friend walking toward the sandwich shop when the gunman -- who waited beside a pillar -- shot him. Police say the man shot him in the head.
It's unclear at this time whether anyone saw the shooting, but one of the 11 off-duty deputies working security at the bar says he heard the shots, but didn't see it happen.
According to the family, the victim is Larry White, 30, known as "Cali". He's originally from Riverside, California, and he has lived in Houston for at least 15 years.
Police are not saying whether there are any suspects right now. Investigators questioned the man's friend as well as family members at the scene.
