SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- A ninth-grade student from Klein Collins High School is in serious condition after falling from a second floor railing Friday.
School officials are reluctant to use the word "jumped." They are not saying whether this girl intentionally hurt herself. Life Flight responded to the campus just before 1pm.
Klein ISD officials say surveillance cameras caught the whole thing.
"I've watched the video," said district spokesperson Judy Rimato. "She walked directly from her classroom to the railing and then climbed over the railing and fell."
Officials can't say why the girl climbed over the railing or what her intent might have been. Most students were in 6th period class when this happened but a few did witness it.
"I was in the hallway when it happened," said Nick Colon, who tells us he didn't see it, but he heard it. "She was just screaming, like really loud."
We saw some students in tears. Some seemed touched, beyond what words could convey and beyond what their minds could comprehend.
"It's just sad. There are people crying right now... My friend. She was just bawling," said one student who did not wish to be named.
Crisis counselors were on hand Friday and will be back Monday. Right now the teen is listed in serious condition at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.
