Houston pastors try to convince voters to vote 'no' on Prop 1

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston pastors are trying to convince voters to vote 'no' next month on proposition one.

Wednesday morning, pastors from churches across Houston gathered to reiterate their fight against Houston's Equal Rights Ordinance (HERO). Seven pastors stood on stage surrounded by about 100 supporters while speaking.

They say HERO "crosses a line" and promotes "reverse discrimination for people who believe in God." One pastor said if proposition one passes, it could be "deadly, decisive, and damning," when it comes to the privacy of both men and women.

"I believe HERO is the most dangerous thing that's ever been orchestrated in the city of Houston," said Dr. Floyd Williams Sr., with Antioch Church.

"The mayor we have now obviously did not care what Houstonian's thought this was about her," said Pastor Steve Riggle with Grace Community Church.

Houston Unites is currently running an ad featuring two pastors who support HERO. The mayor has not commented on today's meeting at Second Baptist Church.

Election day is November 3.
