Could heavy marijuana use mean a shorter life?
Health officials say heavy marijuana use could mean an earlier death

If you are a heavy pot user, you might not live as long.

Swedish researchers say those may be the findings from a study of more than 50,000 soldiers conducted over the last 47 years.

The men all began their military careers in 1969, and described themselves as heavy cannabis users in their late teens.

The study's authors say the men who used marijuana heavily were 40 percent more like to die by age 60 than those who never used the drug.

Furthermore, the study's authors say they found higher percentages of suicide or death by accidental injury among the heavy pot users.

The authors say, however, the findings are merely a suggestion and do not take into account other factors which could have shortened the soldiers' lifespans.
