Suspect's stepfather called 911 after woman shot and killed in Sheldon area, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is dead after a shooting in the Sheldon area, according to the sheriff's office.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirmed the shooting happened in the 11100 block of Maritime Drive on Saturday afternoon.

The suspect, described as a 29-year-old man by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, was detained at the scene. Investigators added that it was the suspect's stepfather who called 911 after the shooting occurred.

Sgt. Jason Brown described the victim as a woman in her 40s, adding that she and the suspect had been drinking and had some sort of argument before the shooting.

While Gonzalez previously said the deadly shooting was a possible "intimate partner shooting incident," in an update later in the day, investigators said they could not confirm the nature of the man and woman's relationship.

At the time of publication, Brown said the weapon had not yet been recovered and that the suspect was still being questioned at the sheriff's office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
