HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Charges have been filed against a 34-year-old man after a woman was found stabbed in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.

Houston police said Gerren Miles Crosson was arrested after officers responded to 11919 Harristown Drive around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday and found a 71-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds.

She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead, HPD said.

Officials said the woman was the suspect's son.

Police searched the area and found Crosson before detaining him. According to court records, Crosson admitted to stabbing his mother six times because he "felt like it was something he needed to do."

The suspect, documents said, was previously charged with injury to the elderly in 2021, but the case was dismissed.

HPD said Crosson has been officially charged with murder.
