HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The City of Houston is looking into an ABC13 viewer's account after they received a water bill for more than $4,000.
"We cannot afford $4,000," Robin Turner said. "That bill is outrageous."
Turner showed us the bill, which indicates that her home used more than 120,000 gallons of water in June of this year.
It shows that number was around 20,000 in May and around 10,000 in March and April.
"We don't use water like that," she said of the current bill. "It's a small two-bedroom house."
Turner said City of Houston workers have come to her home, but at this point she's being told she must pay the entire balance on the bill.
"They walked the whole perimeter and everything," she said of city workers. "We just can't come to the conclusion on why the water bill is steadily going up."
This massive bill comes as the City of Houston has announced it will soon resume turning off water for customers with unpaid balances.
It's something that hasn't been done in two years, but officials say they've fixed the meter and billing issues that led to the hiatus.
"It's very scary," Turner said. "Everybody needs water."
ABC13 has previously reported there are about 15,000 customers in the City of Houston with outstanding balances for water bills.
