HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The University of Houston has a major decision to make before it opens the upcoming football season in September.

The decision is what to do with the damaged playing surface at TDECU Stadium.

The stadium, which is the home of the Houston Cougars football team, was damaged in April during preparations for an Easter service hosted by Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, according to UH. It's believed the playing turf was damaged by a crane company that was hired to set up a stage for the event.

UH is debating whether to put in a temporary fix now and then do a permanent fix after the football season.

The university says the decision will depend on how quickly any potential legal issues are resolved.
