HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A major lane switch that was initially scheduled for Nov. 7 to reduce I-10 to two lanes of traffic has been postponed for the second time, TxDOT announced Wednesday.

According to TxDOT, a stretch of I-10 westbound, from the I-45 North Freeway to Houston Avenue, will be reduced to two lanes to facilitate the completion of the multi-million-dollar White Oak Bayou Elevation Project.

TxDOT originally announced the partial closure would begin on Oct. 24, but later delayed the project to Nov. 7.

In a statement to ABC13, TxDOT said that the major traffic switch would not happen on Friday. They did not provide a new date for the project.

Officials with the state agency say the lanes need to be shut down to help finish the White Oak Bayou Elevation Project. The primary objective of the project is to raise the westbound lanes, which are reportedly prone to flooding.

TxDOT initially announced that the two lanes of traffic would remain closed until mid-2026; however, it is unknown if this closure will remain in place longer due to the delays. The entire project is expected to be finished by the middle of 2028.
