Trash removed in Northeast Houston neighborhood after residents turn to ABC13

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The Rosewood community in northeast Houston is familiar with illegal dumping.

There are multiple areas where people routinely dump their trash, according to ABC13 sources who live in the area.

"Every day somebody is back here dumping stuff," Charles Thomas said when speaking about the intersection of Teesdale Drive and Woodwick Street.

ABC13 checked out the site on Wednesday morning, where items such as a mattress, tires, a couch, and more were dumped on the street and grass.

Eyewitness News reached out to the City of Houston to ask about the trash in the area and a long-term solution.

Shortly after, the trash was removed from the area.

City staff told ABC13 they are working on a full response to our questions.

People who live in the community told ABC13 they are appreciative that the city comes by to clean up the trash, but they want deterrents to help solve the problem.

"Every time the city cleans it up, they come right back. They dump it here damn near every day," Thomas said. "We done called 311, we called all kinds of numbers, but people just keep doing it."

Community members told ABC13 that they hope the city will install cameras in the area and more signage warning people about the penalty for illegal dumping.
