HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Houston police are searching for a suspect after they say a 77-year-old man was stabbed to death while riding his bike to work this week.
On Friday, the Houston Police Department released surveillance video of the suspect wanted in the deadly stabbing.
HPD says the suspect seen in the video allegedly stabbed the victim on North Drennan Street just before 6 a.m. on Thursday. Police said the suspect boarded a METRORail train shortly after the stabbing, and that's how officers obtained the video.
According to officials, the 77-year-old was riding his bike to work on a nearby bike trail when the suspect came out from behind a fence and stabbed him.
HPD said the victim was able to reach his workplace, where his co-workers called 911, but he died at the hospital.
ABC13 spoke with Houston City Councilmember Mario Castillo, who represents the area. He said he wants to see more safety measures right away.
"I've already had conversations with HPD. They are going to be increasing patrols in the area to include bicycle officers and potentially some ATVs as well, but at least bike and vehicle. We want to do what we can to make this trail safe to ensure these things don't happen," Castillo said.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspect in the video, or in this case, is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
