Court records shed light on why 30-year-old man reportedly stabbed, killed his father

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A man was charged with murder after investigators say he stabbed his 64-year-old father to death at a Harris County home Thursday morning.

According to court records, Liam Sanders took a rideshare to his father, Aubrey Sanders' home, before the stabbing. Investigators say Sanders called 911 and told dispatchers he had killed his father.

Harris County sheriff's deputies responded to the home, where court records show that Sanders answered the door covered in blood.

Neighbor Joe Newman said the large police response was alarming.

"It scares the heck out of ya!" Newman said.

According to court records, Sanders waived his Miranda rights and told investigators he "snapped" during a conversation with his father.

Investigators said Sanders admitted to stabbing his father repeatedly with a work pocketknife while his father pleaded for help.

Court records also detail what investigators say Sanders described as his motive. Sanders allegedly told investigators he killed his father because of crimes he believed his father had committed.

He allegedly told investigators he had run out of options and felt it was something he needed to handle himself.

Harris County court records contain no information supporting Sanders' allegations against his father.

A review of Harris County court records found no criminal history for Aubrey Sanders that would substantiate the serious allegations his son described. The records show one misdemeanor simple assault case from 1996, for which he was fined.

HCSO said deputies had responded to the home before.

Major Errol Dean said deputies responded to calls at the location in May 2025, including a domestic disturbance and a mental health emergency.

"In another one, it was a mental health emergency where we took the suspect for an emergency detention order," Dean said.

Investigators have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the stabbing.

Sanders remains charged with murder. Court records did not indicate he had an attorney.

Neighbor Newman said learning that a son was accused of killing his father was difficult to hear.

"To hear a son do it to a father, being a father myself, it's really brutal," Newman said.
