HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Susan Wright, who was convicted of brutally murdering her husband in 2003, has been charged with a new crime in Harris County.
Court records show Wright, who now uses her maiden name Wyche, was arrested for a hit-and-run crash on Thursday morning.
Eyewitness News learned it happened sometime before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Cutten Road and Theall Road near Willowbrook Mall.
A witness said it was raining at the time and that Wright struck a green Kia Sportage while turning onto Theall Road.
Investigators said the Kia was forced into a ditch and that the woman driving estimated Wright caused $7,000 in damage. Court records state damage to the other vehicle is at least $200.
Deputies said they broadcast a description of Wright's white Toyota Camry and located it at her workplace about a half mile away on Theall Road, a short time later.
When they spoke with Wright, they say she admitted to her role in the crash but said she didn't see the Kia after striking it and thought it had left the scene.
She reportedly said she didn't call 911 because she was "traumatized with cops because she was involved in a domestic dispute this past weekend."
Wright made national headlines when she was convicted of tying her naked husband to the bed with neckties and stabbing him almost 200 times with different knives before burying his body in the backyard of their northwest Harris County home.
She served 16 years in prison and was released on parole in 2020.

On the eve of her release, Wright's family wrote in a text message: "I think she's paid her debt to society and deserves a second chance."
Online court records show Wright has posted a $100 bond and was released from jail Thursday night on the hit-and-run charge.
She does not have an attorney of record listed and didn't answer when Eyewitness News knocked at her northwest Harris County home.
