HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating after they say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in northwest Houston on Thursday morning.

Sgt. Lyman Ross with the Houston Police Department said officers responded to the deadly crash near Salge Drive and Hollister Street at about 5:30 a.m.

HPD said the 40-year-old man was walking on the roadway "in low visibility" and "low lighting" when he was hit by a red Infiniti Q50 traveling northbound. HFD paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police added that there were no signs of impairment in the 26-year-old driver of the Infiniti, who remained at the scene, but was questioned and later released.

Ross said that, though there are no sidewalks in the area, pedestrians should not walk in the roadways, especially when visibility is poor.

An investigation is still ongoing.
