U.S. Navy destroyer launches cruise missiles in attack on Syrian air base

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Video released by the Department of Defense Thursday night shows cruise missiles being launched from a U.S. Navy ship toward Syria.

The video shows guided-missile destroyer U.S.S. Ross conducting strike operations while in the Mediterranean Sea.

The missile strikes targeted a Syrian air base in retaliation for a gruesome chemical weapons attack against civilians earlier this week.

The U.S. attack on a Syrian air base came after years of heated debate and deliberation in Washington over intervention in the bloody civil war.
