NWS says new rain gauge system coming after Bush Airport construction impacted data

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) -- The National Weather Service says construction at Bush Airport blocked data from the rain gauge system there.

They say the high-tech system measures rain, wind, humidity - basically anything you can think of, weather-wise.

NWS says they stopped receiving data from the Automated Surface Observing System around November 24th

That system is owned and operated by the National Weather Service, Federal Aviation Administration, and the Department of Defense.

NWS tells ABC13 they've ordered a new rain sensor and expect it to be installed early next week.

Until then, they say they will use rainfall reports from a Harris County Flood Control District gauge at Cypress Creek and Cypress Wood.
