HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A man died after being hit by multiple vehicles while crossing the North Freeway on Monday night, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
HCSO said the incident happened at around 9 p.m. In a social media post, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the man was running across the I-45 North Freeway northbound mainlanes at Rankin before he was fatally hit.
The northbound lanes were shut down during the investigation, but those have since been reopened.
According to HCSO Major Al Blenderman, the man was hit by at least three vehicles, which he said all stopped.
Blenderman added that there were no signs of intoxication, but that an investigation is ongoing.
"Appears to be just an accident," he said. "Very dangerous to cross a freeway...especially at night."
The victim has not yet been identified.
